253 !!!

 Bobby G 253

Bobby "G" Gleason
sets Cocktail Record!!!

February 27, 2008...Las Vegas

As we walked into the Nightclub & Bar Show today a kind of anticipation was apparent in the crowd...the news was traveling quickly...Bobby G was about to attempt to set the record for the most amount of cocktails made in one hour!  This was something not to be missed by anyone.

The stage was set, the crowd was ready and the Guiness Book of World Records staff were standing by.  The clock started its countdown and Bobby G was off...the goal was to break the previous record of 179 cocktails.  As the crowd watched, Bobby started on his quest.  He had several rules to follow:

  • Every cocktail had to have a minimum of 3 ingredients - one of which must be alcohol
  • Each cocktail must be completed before starting the next one
  • Each cocktail had to be different
  • Every cocktail had to have been or is on a cocktail menu somewhere in the USA

As the minutes passed by, Bobby was on a pace of about 4 cocktails per minute.  This feat was accomplished by some help from his very talented assistants - Anthony Alba, Gaston Martinez and Eddie Perales (familiar names, right?) - they helped with giving Bobby his recipes and delivery of the cocktails.  As he called out the drink names, Bobby made the cocktails and once complete, the cocktails were displayed on a table for the crowd to see.

The crowd was amazed at the speed (and stamina) of Bobby as he made the cocktails, joked with the crowd and flashed his famous smile.  His audience was beginning to realize that he was going to break the record and they were going to be part of history...one of our own was going to hold the record!

About 40 minutes in...the crowd starting chanting...he was at 175...176...177...178...179!  The record was his!  Bobby didn't stop there, he kept going and when the buzzer went off...the record stood at 253!!!

The Cocktail of the Month...June 2008

The Hendrix...a pear/basil margarita

1-1/2 oz.     Partida Blanco Tequila
1/2 oz.        Cointreau
1/2 oz.        Fresh Lime Juice
1-1/2 oz.     Fresh Pear Juice
3-5 leaves    Fresh Basil (depends on size of leaves)

Add basil leaves to a cocktail shaker.  Fill with ice and the remaining ingredients.  Shake vigorously and strain into an ice filled bucket glass.  Garnish with a basil leaf.

Note:  Make sure to use fresh or fresh bottled pear juice.  Organic pear juive from a specialty store is usually not just pear juice.
